If commitment to improvements within aged care could be measured by the level of attendance at ACCPA in 2022, then thereis much to like about what is to come in Aged CareWith our digital technology viewpoint, we like the other 1 700 delegates attended this conference with a view to connect and learn. For us, there were a number of highlights.
Senator Anne Ruston speaking at the ACCPA event
Setting the tone
Aged Care Minister Annika Wells & Senator Anne Ruston both gave inspiring addresses that advocated for innovation in care and the right to take risks. By that, the notion that we need to provide individual models of care to ensure each elder is enabled to live the life they want to liveACCPA CEO Tom Symondson set the tone for the next chapter of the industry body with the launch of the ACCPA Charter. In announcing the initiative, Tom says the Charter is designed to reflect "that we and you as the sector make the Australian community, and in particular older Australians, the promise that we are here to serve and support.

ACCPA 2022 in Adelaide welcomed cohort of aged care industry representatives.
Making innovation happen
It was pleasing to see a unified view among speakers and delegates alike that further innovation in digital technologies will play a key role in elevating our sector to be a global best practice.Richard Ainley from PwC Australia summarised it well when he said,"Successful innovation and a successful digital transformation requires a multifaceted approach with critical factors being to have the right strategy, the right people, the right process and the right technology for your individual requirements."A few exciting new market entrants to watch include the new sensor technologies from Israeli company, Vayyar, a promising new vendor of fall detection.

Reform in Home Care
First Secretary of the Department, Nick Hartland, discussed the deferred Support At Home Program and highlighted what Australian's are looking for in this reform.During the presentation we were told Australians want better transparency as to where their money is being spent. And they want more independence/management of their own funds and flexibility to adjust services over time. So, the model now reflects changes such as simplifying qualifying factors, early support for independence at home and monthly plans to accomodate the need for change over time.At eevi we believe there's a role for digital assistive technologies to play in providing that transparency and sustained independence. And we continue to work with policy advisors where possible to share our knowledge and insights.
